Twenty one years after leaving graduate school and after turning 50, I decided to start a medical device company right at the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic. This has been the most challenging yet most rewarding experience of my professional life.

I want to share my experience taking an alternate career path with the current students in my old lab, most of whom likely were born after I had finished graduate school, in the hope that it may help some of them to find the courage for taking the risk that is inherent to starting a new venture.
